The device has a long list of features that make it suitable for most field work including some hazardous atmospheres.
Portability
The rugged tablet is light enough that it can go anywhere and be carried around all shift. The optional portable handle makes it easier to grip and carry. The detachable keyboard is handy for those times when you need a full size keyboard.
Portable devices often come with a security risk, but Getac have added an RFID reader so that information can be fed back into the management system. There’s also the offer of a Windows Hello face authentication camera.
Connected While on the Go
Whether you’re working outdoors or in the office, the UX10-EX has digital connectivity through BT, WiFi, and optional 4G LTE. The optional RS232 port can support legacy equipment.
Use in Hazardous Zones
The Getac UX10-EX is ATEX and IECEx certified suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres including Zone 2 and Zone 22 where there is non-conductive dust. The device is not certified for use in zones 0, 1, 20 or 21.
To ensure safety in hazardous zones, the housing of the device mustn’t be opened inside an explosive hazardous area, including interface seals and the battery compartment so the battery can’t be charged inside the area. If any seals are damaged or if dust has entered an opening, the device must not be taken inside explosive hazardous areas.
Rugged Capabilities
The tablet is certified to MIL-STD 810G and has IP65 sealing, so it’s dustproof and can cope with low pressure water jets from all directions. The device is vibration and drop resistant to a height of six feet. The device is operational between -29 °C and +63°C.
Display
The Lumibond® screen means the device can be used in all conditions. Bright sunlight isn’t a problem for reading the screen with its 1000 nits of brightness. The screen’s 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution makes for a sharp 224 pixels per inch. Use the device in extreme conditions including rain with a finger, pen, digitiser or gloved hand.
Accessories
The wide range of accessories means the device can be adapted to suit most field workers. Battery options include the dual bay, multi-bay and a high capacity 9240 mAh or the standard battery. Portability is further improved with the four point shoulder harness, rotating hand strap with kickstand or shoulder strap. AC adapters, digitizer pen, stylus pen and tether are also available.

While it’s a rugged device, accidental damage is still a possibility when you’re in rugged environments. Luckily, Getac’s 3-year Bumper-to-Bumper warranty covers accidental damage.
