The 14-inch Panasonic Toughbook 55 is the thinnest and lightest semi-rugged laptop in its class. The main performance enhancements to this model are the quad core CPU, optional discrete graphics, two terabytes of SSD storage and 64 GB Ram, 92 DB speakers and a new tetra-array microphone.
Flexible Modular Upgrade System
The Panasonic Toughbook 55 is a step up from its predecessor, the CF-54. One of the major updates to this model is a modular system that lets you upgrade the storage, memory and add additional ports. Previously, an upgrade was only possible at the time of order, adding weeks to the delivery date but now as a user’s requirements change, so can the Panasonic Toughpad 55. Other possible user-upgrades include authentication readers, optical drives, and dedicated GPU.
40 Hour Battery Life
The Toughbook 55 has the longest battery life of any laptop on the market. The battery has been upgraded from the CF-54 to give 20 hours operation life for the standard non-touch model. A second modular battery can be added for up to 40 hours of operation.
The Toughbook 55 uses an infrared webcam with tetra-array microphones and privacy cover. With four microphones, the Toughbook 55 has excellent speech recognition accuracy. Security features of the unit include facial recognition and two factor authentication, secure BIOS with Intel Hardware® Shield and a secure operating system.
Using the Panasonic Toughbook 55 in the dark is made easier with its colour selectable back-lit keyboard. With six colour options to choose from and night mode functionality, it will reduce eye strain and maintain optimal night vision.
Despite its slim profile and light 2.08 kg weight, the Toughbook 55 is designed to perform in difficult outdoor conditions. The unit is certified MIL-STD-810H with capabilities including 91cm drops, sand, dust, shock, high and low temperatures and humidity. It also has an IP53 certification meaning it can cope with light sprays of water even at a 60-degree angle. The keyboard is spill resistant and, if needed, can be easily replaced with a new one. The magnesium alloy design has a built-in handle making it easily portable.
With the addition of a rugged Fischer USB port, there is a smooth operation of the USB connection between the laptop and the USB device you are connecting to.
Compatible With CF-54 Vehicle and Desktop Docks
The good news if you’re upgrading from the CF-54 is that the Toughbook 55 is backwards compatible so there’s no need to update any vehicle or desktop docks and chargers, they will all still work.
The Toughbook 55 is designed for mobile workers and is used in a range of industries including:
- Automotive diagnostics
- Field works
- Mobile workers
- Maintenance crews
